#The Time Is Now
“Nothing has contributed more to the systematic mass incarceration of people of color in the United States than the war on drugs”
- Michelle Alexander
Our Mission
The Color of Cannabis provides a pathway for restorative economic and criminal justice to communities negatively impacted by the war on drugs.
Our Vision
The Color of Cannabis will increase the number of minority ownership in the cannabis industry. Creating an industry that has more POCs in leadership and power positions.
Business Education & Technical Assistance
The business of cannabis is complicated and highly regulated. In order to succeed, technical assistance and mentorship is critical. Without it people of color will experience extreme difficulty as startup businesses. Partnering with industry experts to provide training and mentorship is key to creating sustainable businesses.
Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994
The 1994 crime law passed by Congress and signed by President Bill Clinton was one of the key contributors to mass incarceration in the 1990's. A $30 billion crime bill that created dozens of new federal capital crimes, mandated life sentences for some three-time offenders, and authorized more than $16 billion for state prison grants and the expansion of police forces. When Clinton left office in 2001, the United States had the highest rate of incarceration in the world. He expresses regret over passing the crime bill.
